In short: Sonnen aluminum-block digesters cover 8 to 56 positions in two series: the Smart series (Smart 08/12/18/20/42, plus the high-capacity Smart 56 on request) with 21-stage programmable ramps from ambient to 450 °C and storage for 510 user programs, and the X series covering 8 to 42 positions. Smart 08/12/20 use 300 mL tubes; Smart 18/42 use 100 mL tubes.
The Smart series now spans five models — Smart 08 / 12 / 18 / 20 / 42 (300 mL tubes on Smart 08/12/20, 100 mL tubes on Smart 18/42) — with 21-stage user-defined temperature ramps from ambient to 450 °C, storage for 510 user-defined digestion programs, over-temperature protection and intelligent fault detection; a lifting mechanism and exhaust absorption interface are optional. The high-capacity Smart 56 remains in production, available on request. X-series blocks cover 8 to 42 positions.

- Automation path — Smart 20 digested samples stay in their 20-position rack, which loads directly onto the A20 autosampler.

How do I choose between the Smart models?

If you plan to automate downstream titration, choose the Smart 20 — its rack transfers directly to the A20 autosampler.
